Through the Niagara College and Toronto School of Management partnership, the Toronto School of Management delivers Niagara College programs and services at the Toronto campus, providing high standards of instruction and student services.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Supporting students in identifying and providing required academic accommodations and supports related to the functional impacts of their disability.
- Gathering, reviewing, validating and assessing documentation to determine the functional impacts of a student's disability.
- Work with students through shortterm, goalspecific accessibility counselling related to academic accommodations on topics such as selfadvocacy, rights, responsibilities.
- Provision of referrals to other supports, as required.
- Documenting meetings and correspondence with students and about students in a secure environment.
- Maintaining the required standards of confidentiality and privacy.
- Working in collaboration with other campus resources to effectively support the accessibility needs of students.
- Liaising and consulting with faculty, advisors, coordinators, and other college staff on all matters related to supporting students with disabilities.
- Attending staff and supervisory meetings, as required.
- Ensuring supervisor is informed and updated on urgent/critical issues.
Position Requirements:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Counselling, or Clinical Psychology from a recognized postsecondary institution.
- At minimum 2 years' experience in counselling or accessibility advising, ideally within a postsecondary setting, mental health environment, or equivalent.
- At minimum 2 years' experience in Special Education and/or working to support students with disabilities, including an understanding of related documentation such as Individual Education Plans, psychoeducational assessments, Functional Limitation Assessment Forms, and/or medical reports.
- Experience working with international students is an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- An understanding of the impact of disabilities in a postsecondary environment.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code.
- Ability to conduct sensitive interviews and intakes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, teamwork and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to work effectively and collegially with the student and staff population.
- Effective skills in conflict resolution, especially with respect to the rights of students with disabilities and the implementation of relevant academic accommodations.
