LDS is a growing, innovative, research-based, nonprofit charity serving children, youth and adults with learning differences. In collaboration with academic institutions, LDS offers individualized, evidence-based programs that target student-specific learning needs.

Our growing programs and services currently operate online, from our Learning Centres in East Vancouver and North Vancouver, as well as from in-school locations and our mobile classroom.

We provide sustainable, affordable and individualized programs to ensure that all children have an opportunity to realize their full potential.

Through early intervention, we support students at a critical time in their life, leading to profound, positive change in student life outcomes.

We are scaling-up our organization and service provision with the ultimate goal to effect system change with material and wide-ranging societal benefits.


Our Instructors:

  • Our instructors are experienced educators with a passion for making learning accessible, engaging, and possible for learners who find learning difficult and have skills and experience in delivering instruction in at least one of the following three academic areas: reading, writing and/or math.
  • Our instructors come from a range of backgrounds including teaching, special education, academic tutoring, behavioural intervention, and are looking for opportunities to develop their professional practice, skills, and knowledge within a collegial environment and organization focused on transforming the educational experience of our students.

September 2023
Contract:

Full-time, Monday to Friday, from 9am -5pm. Position can either be 10 months (Sept - June, summers unpaid) or year-round.

Instructor Responsibilities in 1:1 Instruction Program:


  • Deliver onetoone instruction to help bridge foundational skills gaps for students
  • Administer informal assessments to help identify gaps in student's learning
  • Work with evidencedbased curricula to develop lesson plans based on informal assessments
  • Set goals and objectives for each student with support of a Case Manager
  • Write progress reports for students
  • Provide brief session summaries to parents/families
  • Be punctual to all student sessions
  • Attend instructor inservices and workshops throughout the year
  • Contribute to our team learning and be an advocate for learning differences and our work in the community

Instructor Responsibilities in Preschool Program:

  • Work within an interdisciplinary team to develop programming
  • Lead small group times and learning activities
  • Support young children and their learning and development in a small group setting in the areas of social learning, early literacy/numeracy, speech language, and motor skill development
  • Communicate and support families with increasing their understanding and knowledge about their child's learning during programming
  • Document children's learning and engagement with learning activities and support with final report writing
  • Program set up and take down

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field with educational experience
  • Experience working with children with diagnosed or suspected learning differences
  • Experience working with children ages years
  • Ability to use assessment strategies and instruments to identify gaps in learning
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Selfmotivated and selfdirected
  • Experience teaching in the following areas: reading, writing and/or mathematics
  • An understanding of the BC curriculum
  • Orton-Gillingham training (asset)
  • Criminal record check with the vulnerable sector
  • Eligibility to work in Canada
