Nature and Scope:


The Aquatarium in Brockville is seeking high energy-outgoing individuals who enjoy working with people and groups of children and/or adults.

The focus of this position will be to facilitate learning on our exhibit floor through tours, educational programs and guest interactions seeking to learn more about the thousand islands.


Duties and Responsibilities:
Educational Programming

  • Deliver engaging, handson programs and presentations to children and adults alike with a focus on Science and Technology, Environmental Studies and Social Studies.
  • Work as a team member with fellow staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a strong knowledge of natural history, and the geography and history of the local area.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of a range of activities for different age groups.
  • Assist with developing and delivering handson activities (e.g. crafts) that will engage visitors and that will creatively link to stories of the 1000 islands.
  • Create and deliver engaging and informative daily presentations on our animals. (Must be comfortable speaking in front of large crowds and using a microphone)
Tour Guide

  • Greet all guests promptly at scheduled tour times.
  • Outline the tour and timeline before beginning.
  • Provide clear and articulate information to guests in an engaging manner.
  • Answer any questions that the guests have.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of our facility and related topics.
  • Remain calm, friendly, and enthusiastic at all times.
  • Escort guests through the tour, assessing guest needs as they arise.
Health and Safety

  • Ensure all Health, Safety and Risk Management policies and procedures are followed at all times, by all participants.
  • Support the maintenance of a safe, clean, and wellorganized floor environment through the direction of the Education Coordinator.
Customer Service

  • Maintain high standards of professionalism at all times.
  • Able to work independently or as a team member.
Sundry

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Education Coordinator or Manager of Education.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with children or adults in a group setting
  • Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Screening
  • COVID Vaccination
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR B or C

Work Environment:

  • Ongoing training sessions
  • Part time (possible extension into summer months)
  • Indoor work, potential offsite work

Compensation:

  • Pay Rate $15.50 per hour
