About the Opportunity:


Under the supervision of the Manager of Payroll, the Payroll Clerk is one of the team members responsible for providing and maintaining a timely, accurate and efficient payroll service for Nova Scotia Health.

Staff in Payroll will use SAP, HRIS, Time Capture, Windows and Excel.

Representative duties include:

  • Field inquiries from departmental directors and payroll delegates with respect to employee remuneration and benefit banks
  • Respond to or investigate employee inquiries or complaints in relation to payroll information
  • Ensure accurate payroll processing
  • Prepare and process off cycle payments
  • Other related duties

About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate of an accredited two-year accounting program or a graduate of the one year Canadian Payroll Association Introductory Course and willing to complete the remaining modules
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent payroll experience in a computerized environment for a large employer
  • Customer Service focused approach with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Working experience in HRIS and Time Capture is an asset
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to think critically
  • Ability to work independently, with continual interruptions, while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Good judgment skills to know when to resolve issues within policy guidelines and when to refer
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
