Key Function & Accountabilities:

ERGONOMICS AND SAFETY

  • Develop and implement corporate policies relating to ergonomic hazards by interpreting Canada Labour Code regulations (such as the Hazard Prevention Program) to provide a safe work environment in conformance with provincial and federal regulations.
  • Develop, approve, and provide oversight on Health and Safety training programs regarding human factors and ergonomics to ensure compliance with Canada Labour Code Regulations and reduce risk of industrial illnesses and injuries.
  • Perform occupational risk assessments and evaluations by conducting physical and cognitive demands analyses to meet Corporate Standards for ergonomics/human factors and regulatory compliance with regulations.
Conduct occupational health and safety risk assessments by performing walk-through surveys and cataloging potential occupational hazards.

  • Conduct occupational health and safety monitoring evaluations using various instrumentation (sound level meter, lux meter, gas detector, particle meter, etc.).
  • Provide oversight and approval for all third party/independent ergonomic assessment protocols.
  • Maintain records of workplace ergonomic hazards consistent with regulatory and legal requirements.


Consolidate with Labour Canada, Transport Canada, or other governmental regulators regarding ergonomic issues as a result of Act(s) of Voluntary Compliance (AVC) or Directives.


  • Maintain high level of proficiency and knowledge by interacting with ergonomic professionals as well as regulatory bodies.
  • Continually monitor changes in regulatory requirements and technology to interpret and analyze the impact of changes for the Corporation.
  • Produce periodic comprehensive risk assessment and health and safety management reports on hazardous work environments new technologies, processes, and trends as well as regulatory impacts to keep senior levels of the Corporation abreast of sensitive company and regulatory issues.
  • Assist the Senior Manager, Industrial Hygiene & Bio Safety with the following:
  • Oversee Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) inventory databases.
  • Management of the Potable Water Management Program as per respective regulatory authorities.
  • Management of the Aircraft Disinsection Program as per respective regulatory authorities.


Maintenance of Publication
  • Corporate Employee Health & Safety Manual.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Background in Health Sciences (Occupational Health, Biology or Kinesiology) and specialization in Ergonomics.
  • List of Licenses: Certified Canadian Professional Ergonomist (CCPE) or Associate Ergonomist (AE) as per the Canadian College for the Certification of Professional Ergonomists.


Linguistic Requirements: Level
  • Working knowledge of both English and French (ability to carry on normal business in the language in question).
