Responsibilities:

  • Providing academic assistance to students in the classroom, small groups, and individual settings
  • Delivering specialized or adaptive programming to students under the direction of the classroom teacher and
resource teacher

  • Work with students with behavioural and learning challenges

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in both official languages (French & English) written and oral is preferred
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate(s)
  • Good communication, observation, and documentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to follow program guidelines and Individual Educational Plans
  • Demonstrated ability to help children focus and control their emotions
  • Previous experience working with students with severe physical/developmental disorders/behavioral
challenges

  • Willingness to assist with toileting and selfcare needs
  • Experience with children with Diabetic needs
  • WEVAS or other Non-ViolentCrisis Intervention training is preferred
  • Previous Educational Assistant experience is preferred
  • Preference will be given to those who are currently enrolled in or having completed an Educational Assistant
Diploma or willing to undertake the divisionally offered Educational Assistant Development Program.
As a condition of employment, all new hires must complete a satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable
sector search, and child abuse registry check as part of the hiring process.

Salary & benefits for this position will be administered in accordance with the SRSD/Educational Assistant collective
bargaining agreement (CBA).
