Brandt is currently looking for a Heavy Equipment Technician - Material Handling for our Saskatoon location.

The Heavy Equipment Technician – Material Handling independently performs basic/complex diagnostics, service maintenance and repair work on customer and/or dealer-owned equipment on an efficient basis. Resolves customer issues to their satisfaction on a timely basis.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Financial Performance:
    1. Work within budgets and approvals provided by the Service Manager.
    2. Maintain a high level of productivity, efficiency, and gross margin.
    3. Maintain a quality of work metric of 98% (% of work completed right the first time).
  2. Work Systems and Procedures:
    1. Accurately record all work done for customer and warranty records.
    2. Maintain current product knowledge of equipment specific to industry/branch location.
    3. Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly manner.
    4. Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
    5. Must maintain thorough understanding of Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) systems and standards, and a commitment to a safe working environment, ensuring all employees and customers are kept safe at all times.
    6. Ensure knowledge and compliance of proper procedure for disposal of hazardous waste material.
    7. Work within the guidelines set by the directors and managers.
    8. Perform all service tasks as assigned by the Material Handling Service Manager or the Material Handling Service Department Foreman.
    9. Participate in Service Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge. This may also include training related industry-specific technologies.
    10. Maintain and care for department tools, equipment, and vehicles.
    11. Mentor and oversee apprentices.
  3. Diagnostic and Mechanical, Electrical, or Hydraulic Repair:
    1. Perform basic/complex power equipment diagnostics to determine repair needs.
    2. Diagnose and repair all related systems (disassembly, assembly, and repair).
    3. Perform customer, manufacturer, or government inspections on equipment.
    4. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment (such as forklifts, stackers, electric carts, electric tow trucks, transporters).
    5. Utilize drill presses, grinders, air compressors, and common hand/power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on material handling equipment.
    6. Prepare all reports and forms required in conjunction with job assignments (Work Order submitted immediately at completion of job).
  4. Required Skills:
    • Outstanding knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems and propane systems.
    • Demonstrated diagnostic skills to understand mechanical and electrical systems of battery and engine powered material handling equipment.
    • Experience with the use of hand tools and measuring devices, and electrical/electronic diagnostic tools/measurements.
    • Knowledge and experience with industrial equipment that includes lifting / rigging, maintaining, dismantling, and installing machinery and industrial mechanical service equipment.
    • Exposure to aligning equipment, using dial indicators/calipers, micrometers, hoists or jacks is a plus.
    • Strong time-management skills to perform effectively under pressure.
    • Strong communication skills, showing an appreciation of customer needs.
    • Trade qualification (Heavy Equipment, Agriculture, Automotive, Truck/Transport) considered an asset.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
    • A commitment to high-quality customer service with a strong people orientation.
  5. Required Experience:
