We are currently looking to hire a
Payroll Associate to join the Corporate Finance team for a
month contract role with the possibility to extend.
We are seeking a detail-oriented individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced, team environment.

The Payroll team is part of Emera's Corporate Finance team and is responsible for processing accurate and timely payroll for all Canadian Affiliates, including employees on international assignments as well as providing internal stakeholders with reports and analysis associated with their inquiries and objectives.


Our payroll team is made up of an energetic and positive group of professionals, providing opportunity to learn from and be supported by a wider group.

They are active in the National Payroll Association and continuously stay up to date on industry developments, helping us to continuously improve processes.


Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and processing biweekly, monthly, and quarterly payrolls in accordance with company policies, collective agreements, and legislative/regulatory requirements;
  • Completing ROE's, employment verifications and responding to both internal and external stakeholder inquiries regarding payroll;
  • Assisting in processing yearend transactions, balancing, reporting, adjustments and remitting T4's;
  • Participate in payroll related projects;
  • Lead certain continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Maintain detailed records for audit purposes;
  • And ad hoc reporting as required.

What skills will make you successful?
You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:

  • You possess, are working towards or are eager to pursue a designation from the Canadian Payroll Association (Payroll Compliance Practitioner "PCP");
  • Previous work experience processing full cycle payrolls considered an asset;
  • Completion of a Business Administration or related degree considered an asset;
  • Provide a high level of customer service and have excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills;
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks;
  • Proven problemsolving skills;
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook;
  • Experience with PeopleSoft payroll software would be considered an asset.
