Position Overview

The Human Resources Advisor is a key position with the organization and responsible for a wide array of HR functions. This includes partnering with managers/leaders to provide support and advice on performance management, training and development, off-boarding, and policies and procedures. The Human Resources Advisor will have strong relationship building and communication skills and is eager to take on full scope HR functions at RMC Group of Companies.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with managers and leadership to address employee relations matters including, conflict resolution, talent management, and performance.
  • Coach, counsel, and guide managers through disciplinary and performance management processes.
  • Conduct, document, and facilitate workplace investigations, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Manage and create HR programs, initiatives, services and strategies for 300+ employees.
  • Maintain strong relationships with union representatives and other external partners.
  • Read, interpret, negotiate, and comply with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Off-board employees including preparing termination documents, supporting/coaching managers, updating employee records, and conducting exit interviews.
  • Create and administer training programs for all levels of the organization.
  • Update company policies and procedures as required or on an annual basis.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly HR reporting to support project operations and inform the leadership team, making recommendations for improvement when necessary.
  • Conduct, develop, and communicate Employee Satisfaction Surveys on an annual basis.
  • Assist with full-cycle recruitment when necessary.
  • Coordination and facilitation of new hire onboarding and orientation to support the Recruiter as needed.
  • Compliance and understanding of provincial and federal labour standards.
  • Research and benchmark company practices, compensation, and policies with current market standards to ensure the company remains competitive in the market, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Partner with the HSE Team to ensure RMC remains in compliance with legislated requirements, schedule training, and support managers.
  • Actively participate in the safety culture at RMC by completing weekly HSE reviews, participating in safety meetings, wearing PPE, following safe operating procedures, and leading by example.
  • Provide general support to other members of the Human Resources team including Pay & Benefits Specialist, HR Advisor, and Recruiter.
  • Perform other tasks as required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Human Resources or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in a HR Generalist role.
  • Previous experience working in the construction, trucking, or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of Alberta, British Columbia, and federal labour standards.
  • Experience with Ceridian HRIS Software is an asset.
  • Familiarity with payroll functions is an asset.
  • CPHR designated or working towards is preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a unionized work environment is an asset.

Hours of Work

Hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8AM to 4:30PM. Overtime may be required to support operations from time to time.

This is primarily an in-office position with occasional travel to work sites in the Edmonton and area.
