Indigenous Neighbours Program Assistant

Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada Mennonite Central Committee Full time
Canada, British Columbia, Abbotsford

Applications due: 30 Apr, 2024

Job Synopsis

  • JOB SUMMARY
The MCC BC Indigenous Neighbours (IN) Program was started over 30 years ago. The program works to foster the building of trust relationships between Indigenous groups and local churches. We are called, as a faith community, to acknowledge the need for reconciliation to create this new pathway together.

We do this by:
- understanding the history, challenges, and strengths that we all bring;
- educating Mennonite constituents on reconciliation actions using workshops, speaking engagements, publications, and online resources; and
- facilitating opportunities for MCC constituents and Indigenous partners to build respectful relationships.

The Indigenous Neighbours Program Assistant (summer intern) assists the MCC BC Indigenous Neighbours Program Coordinator by developing educational presentations, planning awareness and engagement events, researching, and learning about Indigenous history, updating social media sites with prayer needs, sending out newsletters, promoting the program to constituency, entering program information into database, and attending online Indigenous events and conferences as required.

  • ABOUT MENNONITE CENTRAL COMMITTEE (MCC)_
  • MCC was founded in 1920 as the international relief and development agency of Mennonite churches in North America. We strive for peace, justice, and dignity of all people by sharing our experiences, resources, and faith. We seek to demonstrate God's love by serving among people suffering from poverty, conflict, and natural disasters. In British Columbia, we assist the MCC international relief and development efforts by sending financial and material aid, and we also have several local programs in BC that assist people in need here at home._
