Jean Tweed is a leading, community-based organization that provides a supportive environment for women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns.

Recognizing the diversity of women's experience in today's society, our programs seek to address a range of issues in a woman's life that may contribute to substance use and gambling concerns.

The Jean Tweed Centre is building capacity to transform the level of support for women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns._

Cumberland House is residential supportive treatment services where women taking part in the Residential Program reside. Cumberland House provides psych-education, supportive counselling and a range of healthy activities such as yoga.

Position Purpose


The Residential Counsellor is responsible for the overall safety of the residence and for creating and maintaining a safe and supportive environment for clients during their stay.

This position includes supportive counselling, facilitation of evening activities, crisis intervention, conflict mediation, and facilitation of community meetings.

How will you help to get us there?

As a Residential Counsellor, you will:

  • Conduct intake and assessment where designated.
  • Collaborate and follow up with clients with meeting requirements of residence.
  • Support clients/residents at the residence in carrying out their treatment plan, and assist with daily routines.
  • Monitor client relations/issues, ensuring that any crisis identified is addressed and assistance with conflict resolution is offered.
  • Manage the documentation and recording of information, including the record of case notes in the daily log if necessary.
  • Supervise and assist residents with any required medication where applicable.
  • Carry out medication protocols and administration where applicable.
  • Follow security protocols and address safety concerns as they arise.
  • Identify and follow up on maintenance issues when they arise.
  • Collaborate with supervisor to discuss job performance and establish professional goals.
  • Engage in ongoing staff development and personal learning as agreed to in performance reviews.

Administration

  • Maintain documentation of relevant client interactions and interventions, and contacts with collateral supports.
  • Monitor the progress of clients, prepare reports and letters as necessary.
  • Participate in staff meetings, team development and supervision meetings.
  • Collaborate with supervisor to discuss job performance and establish professional goals.
  • Engage in ongoing staff development and personal learning as agreed to in performance reviews.

Organizational

  • Conduct job responsibilities with a commitment to harm reduction, trauma
- informed, women-centred and anti-oppressive practices.

  • Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Jean Tweed Treatment Centre.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of The Jean Tweed Treatment Centre.
  • Maintain a client service orientation including learning about and addressing client needs and concerns.
  • Work collaboratively including respect others, sharing information, consulting and celebrating shared successes.
  • Demonstrate accountability by holding selfresponsible and following through on commitments.

This role reports to the Manager, Residential Counsellors (Cumberland and Broadview)

What will you bring?

  • College Diploma in Addictions and Mental Health or equivalent qualification.
  • A combination of 3 years of work experience in the field of Mental Health, Substance Use, and/or Supportive Housing.
  • Expertise in providing supportive counselling and case management to individuals who are experiencing or have experienced a complex history of mental health concerns, and substance use.
  • Working knowledge of best practices in mental health, substance use, harm reduction, trauma and the therapeutic relationship.
  • Working knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery principles.
  • Working knowledge of traumainformed practice, womencentred principles and best practices for women and substance use.
  • Working knowledge of community resources such as health care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in complex community settings.
  • Ability to use a range of technological tools, e.g. online reporting systems, videoconferencing etc.
  • Ability to work independently with mínima
