LOCATION SETTING:
NCNS Coldbrook Regional Office (Opportunity Lane)


The Aboriginal Youth Outreach program is a community-based program designed to improve the immediate and long-term social, educational/vocational, economic and health outcomes for vulnerable youth between the ages of 15 and 19 who are facing multiple challenges with limited supports.

The Aboriginal Youth Outreach Worker will contribute to the team and network with other service providers to ensure the provision of a safe, supportive continuum of programs and services are accessible and responsive in order to support our Aboriginal youth.

The incumbent will report directly to the NCNS Social Program Manager.

The Youth Outreach Site and Worker will provide support to vulnerable Aboriginal Youth in the following areas:
Drop in

Crisis Management

Supportive counseling

Programs/Workshops

Referrals

Mentoring

Accompaniment

Outreach

Family Work/Support

Qualifications:
Diploma in social sciences (Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Human Services, Recreation, etc.).

Experience in working with youth in a community-based setting, particularly Aboriginal Youth; personal life experiences are a definite asset. Knowledge and understanding of family, community, social and historical factors and its impact on youth development

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Working hours may often exceed normal office hours
  • Confidentiality is deemed as a requirement for employment

SALARY/HOURS:
Working Hours: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, some evenings and weekends

  • Salary range $32,000 to $35,000 annually
  • Contract ends March 31, 2024. Extensions are highly possible based on funding.
