L'Arche Arnprior is seeking an energetic, compassionate individual to be a leader in one of our homes.

The House Leader is responsible for the overall planning and oversight of high-quality support for each person with a developmental disability, and the supervision, support, training, and formation of all Assistants and support workers in the home.

The House Leader is an effective member of the Extended Leadership team in the community, the leader of the house team and an active member of the local L'Arche community.

Assistant teams support Core Members (adults with intellectual disabilities) by supporting them in their daily life.

We cook and eat meals together, get together with friends, participate in activities in our neighbourhoods, go on vacation together, and celebrate often.


Through sharing life with Core Members, Assistants gain valuable life skills, opportunities for personal growth and self-direction, as well as enhanced leadership abilities.


Location:

  • We currently have three L'Arche homes in Arnprior where people with and without disabilities live together.
  • House Leaders supervise and lead a small team to support these members. They are scheduled in the home for 40 hours per week including day, evening, and weekend times, and have two days away each week.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and collaborate with team members (Assistants) to ensure that the physical, emotional, spiritual, vocational, recreational, health and safety needs of individuals with developmental disabilities are met while maximizing their choices and participation in the decisions affecting their lives.
  • Develop a positive, supportive, and mutual relationship with individuals with developmental disabilities through sharing daily life together, which respects their history, choices, goals and needs.
  • Provide respectful and highquality direct care supports and skill building for Core Members in areas including: personal care needs, life goals, money management, medical care and medication, appointments, family and work connections, household chores and meal preparation.
  • Collaborate with other Assistants in home to complete household duties including but not limited to: shopping, cleaning, cooking, laundry, transportation, yard work, etc.
  • Keep uptodate and accurate records in all areas as directed: financial, medical, daily journals, medication, etc.
  • Lead the House Team in ensuring maintenance and upkeep of physical home, garden, vehicle(s), and all house equipment and supplies.
  • Plan and lead a regular and consistent schedule of individual supervisory meetings, team meetings and house meetings.
  • Lead and facilitate in reviews and goal setting according to set processes
  • Adhere to all policies, guidelines, regulations, and safety and emergency procedures
  • Responsible for the creation of monthly house schedule
  • Joins the extended Leadership Team, attends meetings regularly.

Qualifications:

  • DSW or equivalent schooling or work experience in a related field.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and able to effectively articulate thoughts and ideas in a team
  • Clear police check including vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability to be flexible and manage the stress of multifaceted responsibilities and management
  • Organized and able to set priorities and followthrough on commitments in timely fashion
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to give direction, report information and model effective communication techniques/strategies with the individuals with developmental disabilities in the home.
  • Open to learn and grow; able to give and receive feedback
  • Ability to effectively delegate and supervise
  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience with insurance record (G Class)
  • Administrative and computer literacy skills
  • Flexible work schedule and availability including evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to directly address tensions in relationships
  • Strong team spirit, ability to work cooperatively
  • Stamina and energy to meet the physical demands of the role
