The Human Health Therapeutics (HHT) Research Centre has the mandate to support economic development through innovation in health care, including innovative therapies.

The research centre has a strong track record of industry collaborations, and is a major contributor to the prosperity of Canada's small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The research centre's primary sector of activity is the biopharmaceutical industry. HHT targets SMEs in Canada developing therapeutics, biologics or vaccines, to address unmet needs in human health.

We are looking for a Techician Officer who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

As part of the Sample Management team, the Technical Officer will:

  • Manage biological samples and maintain sample inventory;
  • Coordinate and follow up on labelling, storage, aliquoting and shipping of samples;
  • Prepare and distribute samples for internal users and external clients;
  • Use laboratory inventory management software (LIMS) for simple actions (create boxes in LIMS and scan inventory into boxes).
As part of the Asset Management team, the Technical Officer will:

  • Distribute equipment identification;
  • Update equipment database;
  • Accompany service technicians;
  • Perform document verification.
As part of the Mammalian Cell Expression Section, the Technical Officer will:

  • Take responsibility for maintenance and upkeep of equipment for cell culture, including incubators and biological safety cabinets.
  • Support continuity of research activities by maintaining an inventory of essential cell culture reagents, sterilizing material for cell culture, preparing solutions for decontamination and disposing of waste materials.
  • Undertake tasks demanding significant physical effort, including regular replacement of compressed gas cylinders and monitoring the functionality of fridges and freezers.
  • Serve as a point of contact serving several functional teams, responding to operational needs, such as overseeing minor repairs or making purchases, in a timely manner.

Screening Criteria:

Education:

College diploma or university degree in science.

High school diploma with related experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • Experience in providing technical support in research laboratories (academic or biotechnology or food industry).
  • Experience in the safe operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments such as autoclaves, frezeers and incubators.
  • Sample management experience in a controlled environment would be an asset.
  • Experience in Good documentation practices would be an asset.

Must be able to work in a physical environment requiring manual dexterity, crouching, bending and handling heavy and bulky objects.

Compensation:

From $49,298 to $69,364 per annum.
