Supportive Housing Worker, Leasing & Tribunal – Housing Services (Full-Time Permanent)The Role and Opportunity

The Canadian Mental Health Association – Toronto is seeking a Supportive Housing Worker, Leasing & Tribunal Designate for the Housing Services Team. The Supportive Housing Worker is responsible for the tenancy matters of CMHA Toronto's Housing Services Program. This is in alignment with the mission, strategic directions and client-centered focus of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Toronto. The Supportive Housing Worker conducts new tenant leases, handles rental arrears, represents the agency in eviction cases, assists with legal matters, and provides guidance to the Program Manager and housing staff in day-to-day tenancy issues.

Responsibilities

1) Administration

  • Serve as the department's sub-lease signing agent
  • Manage collection of rental arrears
  • Consult with the housing department on tenancy matters
  • Oversee Landlord Tenant Board applications with Program Manager approval
  • Represent the agency at the Landlord Tenant Board and Small Claims Court
  • Provide administrative support for litigation to CMHA Toronto counsel
  • Handle administrative information related to insurance claims

2) Direct Service

  • Offer direct service to housing clients on tenancy issues
  • Assist front-line staff with client services as needed
  • Connect service users to support services
  • Maintain partnerships with property management organizations
  • Keep accurate case information in a database
  • Available for on-call duty after hours, weekends, and holidays

3) Program Administration

  • Establish and maintain program policies and procedures
  • Ensure data collection procedures are in place
  • Represent CMHA on external committees
  • Participate in relevant CMHA committees
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager of Housing Services

Education & Experience Required

  • Post Secondary Degree/Diploma in Social Service or Paralegal Degree
  • Minimum of 2 years working with service users living with mental illness
  • Knowledge of Landlord and Tenancy Board procedures
  • Understanding of relevant provincial Acts and programs
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively
  • Second language proficiency is an asset
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a vehicle
