Advocacy Project Coordinator

Job Description:

The Project Coordinator will identify advocacy challenges and opportunities, policy research, and analysis.

They will be responsible for the development, assistance and implementation of practices that will enable NAWN to offer support and advocacy for the ongoing development of culturally relevant policies, legislation, and best practices that positively impact Indigenous women and their families, especially concerning Gender-Based Violence.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, engage and build relationships with Indigenous community members, service providers and key local, municipal, provincial and federal departments.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with staff and partners on initiatives.
  • Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the activities.
  • Coordinate project activities, resources, equipment and information.
  • Organize and facilitate community engagements and committee meetings to research trends affecting Indigenous women.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports to submit to Funders and Board of Directors.
  • Communicate with funders as outlined in funding agreements.
  • Monitor all budgeted project funds and ensure all financial records are up to date as outlined in the funding agreement.
  • Ensure the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality.
  • A complete final report showing results and unexpected results as required by the funders and NAWN.
  • Research culturally relevant policies, legislation and programs that impact Indigenous women and 2SLGTQQIA+ people and their families.
  • Research local, provincial and national policies, programs, initiatives and economic trends that affect the wellbeing of Indigenous people, especially those related to NAWN's MMIWG Final Report and Strategic Plan.
  • Create NAWN's GBV Advocacy Strategy and measure progress on advocacy goals.
  • Create and implement communication plans.
  • Communicate NAWN's history and impact.
  • Explore and create partnership opportunities with likeminded organizations that focus on the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community to ensure Indigenous peoples are being heard at various levels of government.
  • Additional tasks as required.

Education, Job Experience and Skills:

  • A postsecondary degree and/or diploma in the area of Political, Social Science (s) or Women's/Indigenous Studies (ies), and/or a minimum of 3 to 5 years of work experience related to policy analysis and research and/or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and analytical skills.
  • Critical thinking and creative problemsolving skills.
  • Positive attitude and team player.
  • Experience working on traumainformed projects would be an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Proficiency in computers and programs such as Microsoft Office, SurveyMonkey, Zoom and other platforms.
  • An ability to prepare and interpret schedules and stepbystep action plans.
  • Comfortable with traditional ceremonies and culturallybased projects.
  • A proven track record working with Elders and community members.
  • Clear certificate of conduct.

Working Conditions and Employment Details:
This position is in Stephenville and will start as soon as possible, and end on March 31, 2026.

The Advocacy Project Manager will work a standard workweek but must work some evenings and weekends to meet project milestones and commitments with NAWN.

There is travel within the province, and your own vehicle is needed and travel allowances for out-of-town travel.
