The Payroll Lead is accountable for payroll processing, advising external and internal clients on payroll matters and year-end payroll administration in the Accounting Department. The Payroll Lead is responsible for managing reports and ensuring their duties are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

What we're looking for from you – If this describes you, we'd love to meet

  • 2+ years full-cycle payroll administration
  • 2 years Diploma in Payroll, Accounting or related field of study
  • Enrolment in or completion of Canadian Payroll Association certification
  • Exceptional proficiency with G Suite (Google Apps for Business)
  • Knowledge of Alberta and British Columbia Employment Standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving
  • Works well under pressure and deadlines
  • Strong numeracy skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical and analytical skills to assist in issue identification and resolution
  • Ability to challenge and improve existing payroll processes
  • High accuracy in data entry
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask

Your Accountabilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of working with Viewpoint payroll software and the Vista time capture portal to process alternating employee and contractor payroll, ensuring data integrity and timeliness. This includes daily job costing payroll processes as well as the bi weekly GL payroll processes.
  • Point of contact for internal and external stakeholders for payroll questions
  • Producing Records of Employment in timely manner and all external required statements
  • Maintenance and audit of the payroll information in the systems
  • Year-end T4 administration
  • Provide accurate payroll reporting
  • Reconcile benefit and other necessary deductions
  • Submit RRSP contributions
  • Process garnishment payments
  • Runs bi-weekly payroll (contractor and employee)
  • Source deduction remittances
  • Process terminations and final payments
  • Coordinate vacation, sick time and other leaves with HR and affiliated departments.
  • Advocacy for organization
  • Understanding Alstar's strategic plan
  • Knowledge of the organization's structure
  • The Payroll Lead will provide optimization guidance and recommendations with respect to the payroll processes.
  • Follow and enforce Alstar's privacy, confidentiality, security and sensitivity policies and procedures with respect to employee, contractor, vendor and any financial or public relations information.
