The Opportunity:


Under the direction of the Manager, the Electromechanical Technician performs and documents a variety of skilled tasks related to the maintenance, repair, performance inspections, upgrading, and installation of designated medical and support equipment such as, but not limited to: sterilization & reprocessing, operating room support equipment (OR lights, Booms, Surgical tables), Blanket/Fluid Warming Cabinets, medical gas outlet system, patient support structures (patient beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, exam chairs, etc), and patient handling devices (lifts/hoists) located through the main IWK campus and offsite clinics.


The Electromechanical Technician will be interacting with a broad range of allied health professionals covering a diverse group of teams across the organization.


Hours of Work:

8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday

Your Qualifications:

  • Diploma in relevant Electromechanical Technician or Engineering Technician (Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical) program from a recognized institution.
  • Certification as a Certified Technician (C.Tech) or Millwright (Red Seal) is an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a direct or related technology support role preferred.
  • Excellent grasp of diverse, fundamental engineering / technical concepts and relationships. Must have a deep understanding of Mechanical, Electrical/Electronics, hydraulics, and instrumentation as well as a deep understanding of the medical device industry.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues.
  • Ability to facilitate the integration of new technologies and provide innovative technical solutions to ensure that IWK Health is enabled to meet organizational mandates.
  • Robust strategic thinking and planning skills that translate into effective implementations.
  • Ability to properly prioritize work based on an environment for regular competing demands.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of codes, standards, and accepted practices related to Medical Equipment/Clinical Engineering.
  • Solid understanding of the health care delivery system with particular emphasis on supporting clinical operations.
  • A demonstrated commitment to safe working skills and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Competency in other languages will be considered an asset.
