About Our Opportunity:


In this opportunity, you manage a team of clerks and a Records Analyst II to deliver of the Records and Information Management (RIM) Program across the Province for the Department of Justice and the Courts of Nova Scotia.

You also develop and monitor records management policies and procedures based on mandates, operational functions, and business processes and lead projects related to modernization of records management.

Further, you support business, legal, and financial requirements of the Department of Justice, Public Trustee Office, Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Services, and the Courts of NS.


Primary Accountabilities:

  • Develop Records and Information Management policies and procedures, with broad direction from senior management.
  • Review, develop, implement, and maintain records retention schedules
  • Standard for Administrative Records (STAR) and Standard for Operational Records (STOR).
  • Remain up to date on records and information management developments within government and the courts and update schedules, policies, records accordingly.
  • Consult with the Judiciary, Prothonotaries, Court Administrator, Manager of Judicial Information Technology Security, and other stakeholders safeguarding judicial information and recommend improvements for operational support.
  • Develop and execute plans for technology advancements/digitization of records to improve the departmental RIM program.
  • Manage several central registry clerks, and a Records Analyst II to coordinate activities among regional records custodians. Develop and deliver training and education to all departmental staff.
  • Responsible for managing staff including setting and evaluating staff performance targets, promoting diversity and inclusion, promoting a healthy workplace, demonstrating leadership competencies, respecting human resources practices, and promoting teamwork.
  • Provide timely and effective performance management of staff, employee relations, and lead the recruitment/selection of support staff.
  • Assume financial responsibility by bringing forward issues that may impact forecasts and projections, identifying opportunities for cost saving, purchasing, and maintaining control of equipment and supplies.

Qualifications and Experience:


To be considered for this opportunity, you hold a university degree in a relevant discipline, e.g., library and information management, archives management, information technology public administration, or the social sciences, in addition to several years of records management experience.

Experience or training in legal and/or courts records management is required.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
