The Strategic Planning Analyst is responsible for developing and delivering elements of the strategic planning process by providing key insights that facilitate improved decision making that drives the corporate strategy (which includes human resource strategy) and commercial functions of the port authority.

A key part of this role is to develop and review sensitive and confidential materials for senior leadership and executive audiences, including material related to workforce planning and labour relations.

This position also provides general support and coordination of strategic and resource planning and general commercial activities.

Accountabilities

  • Leverage insights (external and internal) to define and recommend strategy and commercial opportunities
  • Develop and deliver elements of the strategic planning process with guidance from senior colleagues
  • Use data to provide support for strategy formulation and commercial decision making
  • Provide general insight into strategy by identifying critical questions and performing adhoc analysis
  • Work closely with Executive to set corporate strategy, including preparation and review of material for Executive and Board retreats and Executive and Board meetings
  • Partner closely with other departments, especially human resources and workforce planning, on resource planning (budget and headcount)
  • Work cross departmentally to prepare presentation slide decks to evaluate commercial decisions on complex deals
  • Support pitch preparation for potential investment opportunities
  • Identify risk mitigation plans to respond to key business risks
  • Summarize insights from various sources (e.g. market/customer research, trends, competitor analysis and internal data) and clearly communicate insights in a cohesive manner
  • Provide analytical support on key negotiations and commercial issues, as required
  • Analysis of sensitive and confidential information where errors in the analysis and interpretation of the information and actions taken relying on the information, could result in grievances and arbitrations and/or loss of trust between the VFPA and the Union
Specific Competencies

Education & Experience

  • Completion of bachelor's degree in economics, business, finance, or other appropriate education. Master's of Business Administration highly desirable
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressively senior level experience in business analysis and corporate strategy
  • Experience in management consulting is also highly desirable
  • Familiar with strategy formulation and strategic business planning
  • Experience with the development of sophisticated, professional PowerPoint presentation slide decks to convey corporate strategy or other complex concepts to senior leadership or external stakeholders
  • Experience with the creation of communication materials using analytics, complex data, and conceptual strategy to summarize insights from various sources
