How You Will Make an Impact


Through responsible leadership and effective role modelling, the Personal Support Worker is responsible for the demonstration of the Mission, Vision and Values at work at Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes.To provide a work ethic in leadership and role modelling of behaviors that demonstrates the Mission, Vision and Values of Good Shepherd Non-Profit HomesTo provide service in a dignified, culturally competent and respectful manner that reflects the charism of Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes and which reflects an integrated anti-racism/anti-oppression frameworkTo assist clients with routine activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IDLs) according to program policies and practices and within scope of PracticeTo provide services to clients with any bathing or grooming activities, assessment and management of skin care, bowel and bladder care within the PSW's scope of trainingReferral to Foot Care programming as requiredEncourage clients to use all required assistive aids, mobility aids including walkers and canesEncourage clients to use hearing aids, glasses, Lifeline necklaces/bracelets and other aids being usedSupporting clients while attending external appointmentsLight housekeeping tasks and other instrumental activities of daily living including Going to store for small grocery needs, providing laundry service, washing, drying, folding and putting away of laundry, hand washing of delicate items, tidying of bedroom and bathroom, changing bed linens, meal prepAssessing and reporting any hazards or safety concerns to Program manager or designate

Personal Support Workers (PSWs) may be assigned other responsibilities and duties as required. PSWs may be requested to back-fill/provide coverage as needed, for day shifts, evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays. PSWs may be called in to do emergency coverage. The PSWs will be given a planned, monthly schedule, but flexibility is necessary to meet client needs.


What You'll Bring to Our Team

Diploma or Certificate in related field (e.g. Personal Support Worker Certificate) in good standing from an approved and recognized institutionDemonstrate flexible in availability, duties and be able to work with minimal supervisionCurrent CPR and First Aid certificate is requiredWilling to work in an environment that may have exposures to unsanitary conditions (smoke, biohazard materials etc.)Experience working people living with mental health and or addictions issuesAbility to document care and resident needs/preferencesGood judgement, problem-solving, conflict resolution and assessment skillsAbility to work within an anti-oppressive frameworkValid driver's license and clear drivers abstract is requiredThe ability to speak French and/or other languages in addition to English is a definite asset
