Description:


The Focus on Youth (FOY) program aligns with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board mission and priorities to keep 'Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church' at the centre of student learning.

The FOY program extends learning beyond the classroom and allows students in risk situations various opportunities to be engaged in faith-filled and supportive environments.

The Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations provide the focus for the various programs, camps, and special events that identified student leaders and student campers are engaged in for six weeks during the summer.


Program Supervisor Responsibilities:

Prepare and lead daily prayers

Plan, organize, and lead camp activities for students currently in Grades 1-8

Plan, in advance, daily/weekly creative activities that align with the weekly themes (Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations and Catholic virtues)

Submit weekly activity plans for review and pre-approval by the FOY Coordinator

Organize camp materials, supplies, and inventory for assigned camp(s)

Assist with initial and ongoing training of student leaders

Facilitate regular camp/site meetings with student leaders

Supervise, mentor, and provide performance feedback to student leaders

Prepare attendance lists and track attendance

Oversee extended care, lunch supervision, bus line, parent pick-up/drop off, and field trips

Attend all training

Participation in the final FOY Liturgy and Celebration

Minimum 3 years of experience with children Grades 1-8 in a camp or educational setting

Experience in program planning and facilitating

Experience supervising staff or students in a camp environment or related discipline

Experience in youth mentorship

Effective communication and teamwork skills

Experience working with children and families from diverse cultures and backgrounds

Standard First Aid/CPR

Requirement:

Criminal record clearance and vulnerable sector check prior to start of employment

Wage:

$25.00 per hour

Duration:

1 to 6 weeks, dependent upon placement/type of program and student enrollment

Every effort will be made to provide employment for 6 weeks at various sites
