One of its key products is a family of NAND-Flash module products designed for servers and storage systems, providing exceptional scalability of throughput and density. Client's presence in the server sector is closely tied to emerging application areas like Virtualization, Analytics, VDI, and Distributed Storage, all of which heavily rely on high-performance NAND-Flash sub-systems for enhanced efficiency.
Client holds a strong intellectual property portfolio, boasting 20 granted or pending patents.
Scope of Position
The Vice President of Engineering will lead Client's development team and serve as a vital member of the executive management team, contributing to the company's strategic direction in a phase of significant growth. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the VP of Engineering will oversee all aspects of engineering related to Client's software and chipsets integrated into complete customer products at the module level. This involves chip design, verification, emulation, and back-end processes, encompassing design, NPI, DFM, and component engineering.
The role includes leading a diverse team of engineers based in Ottawa, with a 20% travel requirement. The VP will collaborate regularly with various departments, including Product Planning, the CTO office, and Operations, to shape the company's strategic path as an executive member.
Functional Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of Client's products, spanning software, ASICs, and board-level products, including chip design, verification, emulation, design, NPI, DFM, and component engineering.
- Manage a multi-site, multi-discipline development team, covering organizational planning, recruitment, goal-setting, feedback, and career development for engineering staff.
- Establish and oversee detailed plans and budgets, developing scalable processes for on-time delivery of quality designs at the required cost.
- Motivate the team by setting an example that aligns with the demands of the engineering environment.
- Assess team capabilities, recruit proactively to meet project demands, and coach team members to enhance productivity.
- Supervise outsourced suppliers and ensure compliance with government support programs.
- Participate in setting the company's strategic direction and board meetings as part of the executive team.
Preferred Experience/Education
- 10-15 years in development management, including 5-7 years leading a diverse organization.
- Hands-on with strong project management skills, experienced in developing scalable systems and processes.
- Expertise in hardware modules, software, ASICs, and outsourced partner management.
- Proven track record in attracting and empowering talented managers.
- Strong business acumen, particularly in early-stage environments.
- Experience in analog development and system/board level development is advantageous.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and willingness to travel internationally (~ 20%).
