Working for the School of Business

Position


Reporting to the Director, Full Time & Part Time MBA, the Academic Services Advisor works closely with students in the full-time, part-time and FastTrack programs within the Alberta School of Business, MBA Office from the time the student has confirmed their acceptance of the admission offer until the student has graduated.


This position requires exceptional critical thinking and problem solving abilities as the MBA programs operate in an extremely competitive environment, where rankings of student experiences have a great impact on how the program is perceived which ultimately impacts admissions.

**Duties

  • Meets and advises students throughout their progress in the MBA programs
  • Aligns appropriate courses and program direction with student's educational and career aspirations
  • Monitors student progress to ensure appropriate course and program requirements are met to facilitate graduation requirements
  • Manages the MBA timetable, registration procedures and deadlines for students
  • Collaborates with the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, Registrar's Office and the School of Business Department Advisors to ensure integrated working relationships and knowledge transfer
  • Interprets and implements student records and registration policies and procedures in accordance with the University regulations in the University Calendar; GFC Policy, GSPC and the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research Graduate Policy Manual to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Works with instructors to ensure the smooth delivery of courses; including instructor evaluations and grades reporting requirements
  • Arranges logistics, attends and participates on International Study Tour trips as required
  • Contributes to the planning of MBA student events

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • 35 years of advising experience, ideally at a university or other academic institution
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work well with individuals of diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Knowledge of University procedures, policies, programs, calendar information, FGSR regulations, and FOIPP procedures and regulations
  • Working knowledge of the University's Student Services system an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Applications; PeopleSoft and HRIS systems experience an asset
