Cenovus is currently looking three Managers, Geological Development to join our team

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Geological Development, these three positions will support the achievement of Foster Creek, Lloydminster North & Lloydminster South, as it relates to production goals by improving the extraction of full value from its subsurface assets. It aims to meet or exceed short term production targets and collecting findings for continuous improvement. This role enables the linkage between reservoir characterization and well placement vs. production/operations and resource recovery while collaborating with geoscience peers and reservoir/production engineering.

In addition, they will provide certainty that we can meet our LRPs by creating and acting on appropriate development plans. This role facilitates the subsurface reservoir characterization, geological & geophysical data acquisition, refinement of geomodels and mapping methods in collaboration with geoscience peers and reservoir/development engineering.

These roles will build and lead geosciences multidisciplinary technical specialists to deliver quality work in a pragmatic and technically consistent way. These roles will lead by adapting department plans and priorities to address resources and operational challenges by continuous process improvement, prioritization, and organizing others work to align with Cenovus goals.

Assignment to lead one of the geological areas (Foster Creek, Lloydminster North, or Lloydminster South) will be based on the successful candidates’ background, attributes, and areas of strength.

What you’ll do:

  • Accountable for the stratigraphic well and 3D seismic strategy, and plans for delineation and future surveillance for their region of responsibility
  • Responsible to ensure that pad layouts at all stages and resource estimates are updated annually to support the Long-Range Plan for Cenovus
  • Drive the direction of the IWP and new pad development sequence order, enhancing value and minimizing F&D costs
  • Accountable for all development-related regulatory applications and associated activities to de-risk future development at their region of responsibility
  • Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary team to support all evaluation, planning, and design for optimal subsurface development
  • Lead the integration of subsurface development through the “urban planning concept” to ensure an integrated and optimal subsurface well pad development layout.
  • Conduct annual program lookbacks to drive continuous improvement with respect to pad development and IWP locations
  • Lead joint venture and strategic partnerships associated with the asset
  • Partner with the reservoir development and asset development teams to steward new well packages through the stage gate process and provide key inputs into engineering design and development decisions
  • Coach individuals to further develop their strengths to drive team and organizational performance
  • Cultivates innovation, continuous improvement, and creativity within the team
  • Understands the needs and allocates time and resources effectively to ensure successful completion across multiple projects and teams
  • Prioritizes, considers alternatives, and responds quickly and effectively to unexpected and rapidly changing conditions
  • Coach individuals to further develop their strengths to drive team and organizational performance
  • Develop innovation, continuous improvement, and creativity within the team

Who you are:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Geophysics is required
  • Membership in APEGA or APEGS or other Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization is required
  • A minimum of 12+ years of SAGD thermal experience is required
  • A minimum of 6+ years of either indirect or direct leadership experience
  • Advanced level skills in Geoscience Technical Competencies with depth of knowledge of multiple geoscience disciplines
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced, varied, and diverse environment with changing priorities.
  • Must be initiative-taking, self-disciplined, and able to demonstrate a high level of productivity.
  • Strong organization skills, with the ability to set priorities, follow-up and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the company and with external contacts.
  • Communicates complex information, clearly and concisely to diverse audience
