Job Title: Director, Church and Community Engagement (CaCE)

Department: Constituency Relations (CORE) Team

Reports To: Chief Marketing and Philanthropy Officer, GET

POSITION PURPOSE:

Provide leadership and supervision to the Canadian Church and Community Engagement (CaCE) team, by implementing and managing the CaCE strategy and systems, in support of the vision and mission of World Renew, inspiring constituents in global thinking and kingdom action. This position engages directly with Christian Reformed Churches (CRCs), churches beyond the CRC (bCRCs) , educational and other institutions, conferences and events, and other community groups, all the while building relationships with key leaders in order to increase church involvement with World Renew through prayer, volunteering, financial support, and other ministry partnership.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and supervision of the national team:
  • Facilitate and oversee the annual and long-term planning, implementation and evaluation process of the team, ensuring sound strategy, integration, and alignment with CORE and its sub-teams, World Renew, and CRCNA objectives.
  • Manage the team budget
  • Ensure effective collaboration and integration among all team components: congregational connections, schools, youth and young adult efforts, justice advocacy, and all partnerships, particularly with the Global Volunteer Program (GVP), the Global Engagement Opportunities (GEO) Program and the Global Partnership Program (GPP), as well as As well as such collaboration as is necessary with US CORE members.
  • Co-ordinate with the Canadian Marketing and Communications team generally for the creation and production of materials that will increase the profile of the work of the agency and its reputation with all groups, with a view to increasing all forms of engagement, with a specific focus on collaborating on the GEO Program.
  • Represent concerns in the CORE team nationally and bi-nationally as warranted, contributing to full team efforts to secure funds and foster Canadian and global communities’ transformation
  • Collaborate broadly to develop and implement team plans to educate and motivate both CRC congregations, and congregations beyond the CRC, to higher levels of generosity and engagement
  • Collaborate with CRC ministries, agencies and leaders to integrate church involvement denominationally and grow financial support of World Renew ministry, with a particular focus on deacons and deacon structures in Canada, especially with Diaconal Ministries Canada (DMC)
  • Using these programs: GVP, GPP and GEO, engage churches and church groups with designated global churches and/or communities with which World Renew works, providing church participants with a personal reciprocal experience in ministry on the field
  • Manage church relationships of the top-giving 10% of the CRCs nationally, through development and implementation of appropriate and effective plans; CaCE Team raises around $4,000,000 CAD annually.
  • Ensure that youth/young adult strategies are integrated into team efforts
  • Enable and/or initiate, maintain and expand mutually-beneficial partnerships with schools at all levels.
  • Provide training for board delegates and support them in their constituency development activities at the classical level
  • Through inter- and intra-agency collaboration, encourage justice mobilization among constituent groups in Canada
  • Promote World Renew at select ecclesiastical, educational and other venues, such as conventions and conferences
  • Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position supervises Church and Community Engagement staff members nationally

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledgeable in the Reformed faith and tradition as practiced by the CRCNA, with an ability to articulate a biblical world and life view and to communicate enthusiasm for the ministry of World Renew

  • Flexible and adaptable team player; proven skills in collaborating with others; demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to express ideas clearly, listen with sensitivity.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, manage, implement, and evaluate a church and community fund-raising strategy.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and competence in MS Office programs, competence in computerized database management, and financial information reporting systems

EDUCATION or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
  • Four years work experience required in church and/or community relations, fund raising or related field preferred
  • Two years work experience required in team management/leadership.
  • Recent work experience in international development and disaster response milieu an asset

TRAVEL:

  • Regular (usually monthly) travel between the Grand Rapids and Burlington offices to supervise personnel in both offices is expected
