Position SummaryThis role will be a key member of CAPP’s Research & Data department. The Research Analyst will join a dynamic team of professionals that are responsible for the support and development of policy positions through quantitative analysis. As a member of the Research & Data team, this role will report to the Chief Economist. Responsible for gathering, manipulating, and interpreting a variety of oil and gas data related to production, employment, GDP, supply and demand dynamics, pricing, regulations, and others. Assist CAPP in implementing its research agenda and its data driven approach to forming insights, policy positions and economic policy submissions. Utilize various sources such as industry reports, databases, and market intelligence platforms to collect relevant information.Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses to identify patterns, correlations, and insights.Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and briefings on economic trends and market outlooks.Support cross-functional teams with economic insights and spatial intelligence. Maintain strong relationships and liaise with CAPP staff, CAPP member companies, governments, associations and public interest groups to identify and address emerging economic issues and priorities. Support dialogue and consultation among member companies on various policy files, striving toward building consensus.Keep apprised of and proactively address regulatory, environmental, economic and social policy issues related to the energy sector. Stay updated with the latest developments in the global economy, energy markets, and industry-specific developments.Other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsA minimum of 2 years work experience in research, analysis, or a related role.Proficiency in statistical software and data visualization tools (e.g. Python, R, EViews, Stata), as well as database management and GIS (e.g. SQL, geoSCOUT) Post-secondary education in economics or finance (e.g. B.A., B.A. honors) or equivalent; graduate degree an asset (e.g. M.A. Econ) or relevant designation (e.g. CA, CFA). Willing to consider someone with an engineering degree (P. Eng) or data science and analytics and with experience in economic/financial evaluations.Must be eligible to work in Canada legally.Skills & QualificationsA self-starter who takes initiative and has excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Experience with data management and manipulation.Proficiency using the Bloomberg platform an asset. Knowledge of the energy sector and of policies that are impacting the sector an asset.Ability to think strategically, to work independently, multitask and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Strong problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.
