Who we are

Kamloops Immigrant Services (KIS) is a non-profit organization that serves the needs of immigrants, migrants, and newcomers in Kamloops and the district. Our primary goal is to assist them in building a better future and feeling at home in their new community. We offer free programs and services to help them overcome the challenges of adapting to a new country.

About the position

The Community Connections Program provides free activities to increase newcomers’ social connections and gain awareness of Canadian heritage, culture, and life in Canada. The program offers several workshop series and activities, community events, tours, and networking opportunities where clients can practice their English language skills in informal settings. In this role, you will oversee the day-to-day operation of the program, including developing creative and responsive activities to support newcomers through their journey of making Canada home.

Your responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and execute community events, workshops, and activities to foster connections and awareness among newcomers.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including inventory management, transportation arrangements for participants, facility access, catering, signage, and accommodations for special needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate communication tools to inform participants about upcoming events, workshops, and community activities, enhancing public awareness.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to advocate for new activities based on clients’ needs andensure internal teams are informed of planned activities and events.
  • Track client information and attendance, maintaining comprehensive records and databases onprogram participants and documenting participant activities.
  • Ensure a positive and safe environment for all clients and participants.
  • Serve as the primary contact for agency events.
  • Supervise the coordination of volunteer inquiries, recruitment, selection, onboarding, and supervision, ensuring effective and consistent procedures.
  • Develop strategies to maintain volunteer engagement, contributions, and accurate records of volunteer data and hours.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnerships with other community agencies and resources.
  • Liaise with professional associations, cultural groups, schools, and other community groups to promote agency programs, services, workshops, and events.
  • Maintain relationships with community members, organizations, indigenous communities, and local stakeholders.
  • Manage correspondence, financial records, and statistical reports related to workshops and events.
  • Maintain accurate records, perform data entry, and generate statistical reports using iCare, KISDashboard, and participate in Provincial & Federal narrative reports.
  • Develop monthly calendars, newsletters, and annual surveys using various advertising tools (KIS,websites, etc.).
  • Manage access to workshop materials and resources.
  • Attend workshops and events, especially with new presenters/facilitators, providing feedback, guidance, and collecting client feedback (verbal and surveys) to support the agency’s mission.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Organization:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Recreation, Project Management, Community Development or a similar field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Previous work experience in a social service environment is preferred. Alternatively, a minimum of (2)years of experience in a client-oriented position, preferably in an immigrant settlement service-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the employer.

  • Knowledge of community resources and services.
  • Clear provincial criminal record check.
  • Possess a valid Canadian driver’s license and a reliable vehicle (required).
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
