Job Title: Assistant Project Engineer – Lines & Interconnections (Engineer E3) Location: Edmonds, BC / Hybrid Start Date: December 2025 End Date: December 2026 Hours: 7.5 per day Max INC Rate: $80.80 Max T4 Rate: $66.78 Position Overview The Assistant Project Engineer – Lines & Interconnections will work with cross-functional teams to ensure project designs are safe, effective, and compliant with regulatory and corporate requirements. This role focuses on the electrical design of overhead transmission lines and underground cables for operating voltages ranging from 60 kV to 500 kV, with responsibilities spanning from concept design to commissioning. Key Responsibilities Develop safe, effective engineering solutions for low- to medium-complexity projects using professional judgment and technical expertise. Prepare project documentation including evaluation reports, design bases, specifications, estimates, hazard logs, and test plans in accordance with corporate Engineering Design Practices. Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in compliance with EGBC standards. Conduct engineering calculations for transmission lines including: Electrical clearances, electromagnetic/electrostatic field studies, induction, transient overvoltages, AC interference, ampacity, radio interference, audible noise, lightning protection, grounding, arcing, soil resistivity, and EMTP studies. Produce designs, drawings, and specifications for electrical systems on transmission overhead lines (e.g., surge arresters, disconnect switches, lightning protection, circuit separation). Provide technical assistance and field support during construction, including site reviews as required by EGBC. Coordinate with project/operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and schedule objectives. Review and provide technical guidance on designs prepared by others. Manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost control. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Professional Registration: Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). Experience: This role requires demonstrated experience with the electrical design for Overhead - lines and underground cables for operating voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment. Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with BC Hydro project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans). Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates. Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and BC Hydro Design Practices. Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC. Prepare designs for existing and new facilities. Perform various engineering calculations in accordance with regulatory and industry standards such as electrical clearances, electromagnetic and electrostatic field calculations and related induction studies, transient over voltage, switching voltages, AC interference, ampacity, radio interference, audible noise, lightning protection, grounding, arcing, soil resistivity, EMTP. Prepare designs, drawings, and specifications for electrical systems on Transmission Overhead - Lines such as line surge arresters, line disconnect switches, lightening protection, circuit to circuit separation. Prepare reports for internal and external clients detailing investigations, evaluation, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations. Provide technical guidance and review of designs prepared by others following established practices. Manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost. Additional Information The position is subject to the organization’s Professional Practice Management Plan (Quality Management Pillar). The engineer will apply their Permit to Practice number to all sealed work, and the organization will retain all project documentation to meet EGBC requirements.
