Role Overview

As an Optical and System Integration Technician, your role will be crucial in supporting the design, integration, and testing of state-of-the-art optical systems. This position will involve hands-on tasks such as assembling, calibrating, and inspecting optical components, directly impacting the product development process. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers and grow in a collaborative environment. While having a background in electronics is useful, the main focus of this position will be on optical systems and how they integrate with larger systems. There is also room to take on additional tasks, such as device operation and optimizing workflows, based on your specific skills and interests.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Assemble, align, and calibrate optical components such as lenses, mirrors, and filters for prototype and production systems.

- Perform detailed inspections of optical elements to ensure cleanliness, alignment, and compliance with specifications.

- Clean and handle optical components with precision to maintain their performance, ensuring surfaces remain free from contaminants.

- Set up and execute optical system tests, verifying alignment, functionality, and performance against design specifications.

System Development and Support

- Work with engineers in integrating optical components into larger systems, ensuring seamless functionality.

- Support testing and calibration of prototypes to optimize optical system performance.

- Collaborate with the engineering team to refine system designs and contribute to advancements in product functionality.

Mentorship and Learning Opportunities

- Work alongside experienced engineers and industry leaders to develop advanced technical skills.

- Get hands-on training in optical system assembly and integration.

- Gain exposure to cutting-edge medical imaging technologies and contribute to impactful innovations.

General Lab and Technical Support

- Maintain and calibrate lab equipment used for optical system testing and assembly.

- Provide technical support for the maintenance of optical systems, including diagnostics and basic troubleshooting.

- Ensure an organized inventory of optical components, tools, and materials, notifying the team of shortages or reordering needs.

Optional Responsibilities Based on Interest

- Engage in operating and testing advanced medical imaging devices, capturing diagnostic images, and contributing to workflow optimization.

- Contribute to other engineering efforts, such as assisting with electronic integration, if desired.

Required Skills and Attributes

Core Competencies:

- Strong understanding of optical components and their integration (e.G., lenses, mirrors, and optical coatings).

- Experience with mounts, stages, and precision alignment tools for optical systems.

- Hands-on skills in optical system calibration and inspection.

Additional Skills (Good to Have):

- Basic knowledge of electronics, including circuits and soldering, to support system integration.

- Familiarity with regulatory testing processes (e.G., safety, EMI, and ESD) is an asset.

- Strong analytical skills for identifying and resolving system-level performance issues.

Personal Attributes:

- Collaborative and proactive with a strong willingness to learn.

- Excellent attention to detail, especially in handling precision optical systems.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Required Experience

- A diploma in Optics Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

- Hands-on experience in optical system assembly, alignment, or testing is highly desirable.
