About Fraser Academy:
Fraser Academy (FA) is an independent school in Kitsilano, Vancouver, BC serving students in Gr. 1-12 with dyslexia and language-based learning differences through day and outreach programs. We serve a gap in the system where approximately 20% of the student population is under-served by mainstream education. The ripple impact of our programming also adds great social value. Reports to: Director of Junior School
As a Homeroom Teacher, you will play an important role in developing strong foundational skills and in promoting positive character development and personal growth in Junior School students. This role requires someone who can adapt and adjust their teaching to meet the diverse needs of each learner and is passionate about student success. This role reports to the Director of Junior School.
Participate in field trips, outdoor education trips, athletics, clubs, and leadership development
Plan, teach & assess your students in accordance with BC Ministry of Education Curriculum and our homeroom program, which includes:
Teach Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Applied Design Skills and Technology, and Career Education, as well as one block of Learning Services, Physical Education, or TOCing
Design and implement lessons that build core competencies and support growth in executive functioning and cognitive processing using in-school programs (training provided)
Support the development of Individual Education Plans for each student in your classes
Collaborate with faculty members to ensure students receive the highest quality education and programming
Participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities that enhance students’ experiences at school
Thrives in a collaborative, flexible and supportive team environment
Exemplary communication in English (oral and written) and interpersonal skills (students, colleagues, parents)
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Bachelor of Education, Elementary focus
Experience teaching reading using a structured literacy approach is an asset
Independent school experience and coaching/extracurricular experience are assets
Class 4 license or willingness to obtain one is also an asset
