GVA Lighting is looking for a Manufacturing Process Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate with the R&D and Manufacturing teams to implement new product introductions, design and optimize assembly processes, and lead pilot production runs. You will be responsible for developing efficient workflows, designing and sourcing production equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and driving continuous improvements through Lean, 5S, and Six Sigma principles. This position requires strong technical expertise and hands-on problem-solving skills to support and advance our manufacturing operations. GVA Lighting is a Canadian lighting manufacturer with a global presence, known for landmark architectural lighting projects worldwide, from Tower Bridge in London to Mashreq Bank in Dubai. We collaborate with renowned architects and lighting designers to create signature architectural lighting solutions. Areas of responsibility: Work with R&D Department and Manufacturing Team on NPI process implementation; Create effective and efficient process flow, routing and assembly procedures for the product’s assembly process; Lead PPR (production pilot run) process for new products launches on production floor; Conduct time studies, benchmark productivity improvements and balance flow; Direct involvement in developing new and improving old manufacturing processes; Design, prototype, build and source production equipment, jigs and fixtures in support of entire manufacturing process; Determine and perform appropriate testing / commissioning for the purpose of qualifying a new process or technology; Coordinate work of and assign tasks to a team of technicians and other process engineers, as it is required to complete different projects on the production floor and oversee its implementation; Verify and approve engineering drawings released to production; Ensure availability of tools and equipment for production needs at any time; Implement engineering changes and corrective actions; Actively initiate, plan and implement production cost reduction initiatives; Implement 5S and Six Sigma principles; Setup and supervise production equipment, program operational settings and create O&M manual for it; Establish and maintain calibration and maintenance modules for equipment in ERP system/CMMS software; Use ERP system for data entry, analysis, routing and BOM changes, reporting and other operational needs as required; Maintain and update production layout; Create and update SOP and work instructions; Create and implement in-house training programs for assembly personnel on new procedures, processes and equipment. Safety Assurance Functions: Ensure industry / government safety standards are implemented and maintained in production processes; Review and follow GVA Lighting Safety Policy; Create safety procedures as required; Collect and maintain MSDS information up to date. Qualifications/ Experience needed: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or other Engineering disciplines. Minimum 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering, preferably in electronics / electrical Products, or related industries. Proven expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement methodologies. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, assembly systems, and production equipment (e.g., SMT, CNC, Robotics, Injection Molding). Experience working with SolidWorks for designing jigs, fixtures, tooling, and production layouts. Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for routing, BOM, and production data (experience with Epicor, SAP, or similar systems is an asset). Demonstrated ability to design and implement process improvements that enhance productivity, reduce waste, and ensure compliance. Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities. Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail. Ability to lead and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, technicians, and operators. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Certifications (Good to Have): Lean Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt Highly Valued Technical Skills: CNC machining and programming (setup, optimization, and troubleshooting). Welding processes (robotic welding applications). Injection moulding (tooling, machine setup, and process optimization). SolidWorks advanced proficiency (3D modeling, simulations, PDM integration). Hands-on experience with robotics, automation, and vision systems. Familiarity with conformal coating, potting, and over molding processes (asset for electronics / lighting). Knowledge of 3D printing prototyping and fixture development.
