They serve that mission by offering a broad range of personalized supports and services, closely aligned with the individual goals of supported people including choice of where they want to live, learn, work and enjoy their leisure time. CLA was founded in 1954 by parents of children with developmental disabilities who were concerned about the future teaching and inclusion of their children. We have continued that focus on supporting people to enjoy life in the community for over sixty years. Operating residential homes, Community based homes, Supported Independent Living, Community participation supports, Employment, Urgent Response and Volunteer Services, the agency provides support to over 500 individuals and families each year. As a Direct Support Professional, at CLA, you can expect to: Play a key role in the motivational process to help people in living their best lives as a valued member of the community. Understand, and support, the importance of each person's rights to privacy, individuality and independent choices. Recognize and nurture the steps to facilitate, develop and enhance meaningful relationships with their friends, families and neighbours. Work in a team environment that values advocacy, respect, & accountability As a Direct Support Professional, at CLA, you will ensure: Quality of Life for people receiving services: facilitate/support people to achieve their goals, hopes and dreams. Belonging and being a part of their community: facilitate/support people to attend various activities of their choice in the community. ie. - Volunteer opportunities, education, employment, recreational activities etc. Relationships: facilitate/support people to have meaningful relationships in their life, connecting people to their neighbours, developing/enhancing/providing opportunities to make friends. Health and safety and well-being of people receiving services: including, but not limited to medication/treatment administration. Personal Support: including, but not limited to: partial to full support for a person's personal hygiene/personal care, lifting, transferring, & attending medical appointments in the community. Staff can expect to use a biopsychosocial, humanistic, person-centered approach to walk alongside people, reduce the stressors they are experiencing as much as possible, and assist them with adaptive skills to live the life they want to live. Support people in the participation of community based social, leisure and recreational activities of their choice. Teams include but are not limited to, the person receiving support, their family, friends, community support and staff. Duties and Responsibilities Support, within a team environment, people with an intellectual disability, potentially with co-existing mental health concerns to achieve their personal goals, facilitate relationships, skills and social roles, which promote the person's effective participation in the typical and valued life of the community. Liaison with community groups, employers and others in the community to promote the participation of citizens with an intellectual disability. Facilitates the development of support networks for each person supported and promotes the involvement of family, friends and community members in the person's life. Support people supported to develop decision-making skills and to exercise choice, develop skills and assume social roles, participate in the cultural, spiritual, recreational, leisure, educational and employment activities and affairs of the community typically engaged in by all of its citizens. (this includes, but is not limited to attending spiritual events such as church service, community sponsored events, bingo, swimming, shopping,) Utilize Personal Outcomes Measures to identify outcomes for each person supported. Implement support plans and individualized supports to achieve outcomes. QUALIFICATIONS: Diploma in Human Services with two years direct support experience in a community-based setting, or the equivalent combination of relevant education and experience A valid First Aid & CPR Level C certificate is required. A valid driver's license and maintenance of an acceptable driving record is required. A valid G driver's license would be considered an asset. If you have a full G driver's license, please attach a copy to your application. RATE OF PAY & HOURS OF WORK AVAILABLE $28.12/hour Required to work Day, Afternoon, and Night Shifts Expected to Work on Weekdays, Weekends and Statutory Holiday Applications from reliable, motivated, value-based applicants welcomed.
