Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Financial Reporting is responsible for the completeness and integrity of the financial systems and controls, financial and regulatory reporting among other responsibilities. The successful candidate must be a strong communicator and mentor to junior employees and others in the organization.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

·Directing and managing the reporting entities’ accounting and reporting functions including month end, quarter end, year-end close and external audits to ensure accurate and timely reporting of the financial results.

·Leading the Group’s external financial reporting requirements as well as preparation of materials for the Board of Directors and annual financial statements and results. Also, assist with the preparation of management discussions & analysis, including analytical commentary on the comparative results. 

·Leading in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of effective and efficient internal controls and relevant policies for key processes to ensure the integrity of financial reports for all reporting entities.

·Developing, amending, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures for the reporting entities which may impact financial results and/or presentation.

·Developing and maintaining best practices to bring standardization and consistency to accounting and financial reporting across the organization.

·Managing income tax and excise tax (HST/GST) compliance obligations for the reporting entities and proactively coordinate with the external tax advisors.

·Providing leadership and supervision to direct reports including assigning/reviewing work, performance assessments and providing clear expectations and meaningful feedback.

·Attracting, retaining, and engaging a high performing team with an expandable capacity to scale with the growth of the business.

·Be a primary contact and proactively work with the external auditors and CRA to ensure positive outcomes.

EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of relevant experience with 4+ years in a managerial capacity. The successful candidate will be an experienced Senior Manager or currently at the Director level.
  • Preference for experience in the financial services sector.
  • Have trained with a public accounting firm would be a plus; possess strong technical knowledge with a commercial mindset.
  • Experience with a rapidly growing company have worked through a finance transformation will be an asset.
  • Track record of innovating and bringing structure and order to complex processes and issues.
  • Quick understanding of the commercial and financial fundamentals that drive the business.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP (ASPE) and IFRS.
  • Fluent ability to communicate business information.
  • Advanced MS Excel and database skills, including building complex multi-scenario financial models. 

EDUCATION

  • University Degree (Business, Accounting or related)
  • CPA

Total compensation will include a competitive base salary, annual performance bonus, a long-term incentive, RSP match and benefits.
