The HR Specialist is an important member of our HR team, providing excellent front line support to our employees on day-to-day questions as well as providing support to our HR Business partners on administrative and procedural functions, while building their skills as an HR professional. In a typical day, YOU will:

  • Handle HR correspondence with the business, update systems, handle compliance requirements (Service Canada, confirmation of employment letters, etc.), research, letters (terminations, etc.)
  • Build relationships with managers and employees to effectively support with HR questions and matters;
    provides guidance on HRpolicies and programs.
  • Maintain HR Intranet and related communications, HR Bulletins, etc.
  • Support / Leading process improvement initiatives to streamline and align HR processes for improved efficiency and employee experience
  • Update H&S training records
  • Qualify contractors via multiple platforms (EN and FR) Update H&S policies
  • File Workers compensation claims / paperwork
  • General Health and Specialist Support
  • Focal point for employee inquiries, fielding issues and engaging correct HR service provider / team
  • Ensure that HR programs are implemented in support of the organization's mission, vision and values
  • Actively participate in discussions related to discipline, collective agreements, terminations, etc.
  • Partner with HRBP’s & leaders to support HR issues, recommend specific solutions in support of the business;

  • Support HR Business partners in conducting exit interviews, small HR investigations.
  • May eventually provide direct HR Support to a small client portfolio, under guidance and mentorship of a senior HR Business Partner
  • Support in ongoing special projects, initiatives, throughout year, including but not limited to supporting onsite events, in-house learning programs, Toromont recruiting events, developing training materials, etc. This role reports directly to the Director, HR, - however receives day to day guidance from local HR Business Partners;
    Will interact with all member of the HR Team, specifically HRBP’s, recruitment and HR Systems, and liaise with payroll, benefits, and operational leaders as needed.

Must-haves for this role:

  • HR program graduate and / or 2-5 years HR work experience
  • Knowledge of human resources practices, processes and employment standards across provinces;

  • Working knowledge of HR Information Systems - UKG experience would be an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Team player with flexibility and the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Self-motivated and able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Work towards deadlines with a strong sense of urgency
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office:
    Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Bilingual (EN/FR) preferred
