They have earned a strong reputation for their expertise and dependable service across Canada.Role DescriptionThis is a full-time hybrid role for an Estimator based in Ottawa, ON. We are seeking a detail-oriented Earthwork Estimator with 2–5 years of experience in excavation, grading, site servicing, or heavy civil construction. The estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and tender submissions for earthwork, site preparation, and related civil scopes. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include analyzing project plans and specifications, preparing accurate cost estimates, collaborating with project teams, and managing subcontractor and supplier relationships. The role also entails performing risk assessments, maintaining cost databases, and contributing to the development of winning project proposals.1. Estimating & Quantity TakeoffsPerform detailed earthwork takeoffs, including cut/fill volumes, trenching, backfill, structural excavation, grading, and material quantities.Interpret drawings, geotechnical & environmental reports, project specifications and addenda.Use estimating and modelling software (e.g., Plan Swift, Bluebeam, Civil 3D, Kubla, etc.) to generate earthwork quantities.Familiarity with Soil types, Compaction requirements and disposal/hauling requirements. Understanding of excavation safety standards (OSHA) and Shoring requirements.2. Costing & PricingPrepare complete cost estimates including labour, equipment, materials, trucking, disposal, and subcontractor pricing.Develop production rates and crew/equipment selections based on past performance and industry standards.Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy and scope alignment.3. Tendering & Proposal PreparationPrepare and assemble bid submissions, including pricing schedules, clarifications, and assumptions.Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and review addenda.Ensure estimates comply with project specifications, safety requirements, and local regulations.4. Project SupportAssist project managers in budget hand-offs, change order pricing, and cost tracking.Help prepare a Detailed Schedule for the successful project delivery. Provide value-engineering suggestions to improve productivity and reduce project costs.Review IFC revisions and update estimates as required.Participate in Tender reviews, risk assessments, & handover meetings.Support budgeting efforts for ongoing or future projects.Track project cost performance and provide feedback for estimating improvements. Qualifications2-5 Years Experience in construction, civil or earthwork estimating. Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)Strong understanding of earthwork methods, production rates, soil types, and construction equipment.Proficiency with Agtek, Kubla, Planswift, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, or similar tools (asset).Strong mathematical and analytical skills.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.Proficiency in using scheduling software Microsoft Office Suite.Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for effective stakeholder collaboration.Organizational and time-management abilities to prioritize multiple projects within deadlines.Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide junior staff.Knowledge of health & safety, and environmental regulations is highly desirable.Familiarity with local and regional permitting and compliance requirements is an asset.Why Join CLC?Competitive salary and benefits package.Opportunity to work on diverse earthwork and site development projects.Professional development and training support.Collaborative and growth-focused work environment.
