Greater Ottawa Metropolitan Area, Canada Organigram Inc Full time

Reporting to the SVP, Global Brands and Corporate Affairs, the Director of Public Affairs will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering on Organigram’s advocacy strategy for both the Company and the entire cannabis sector.


Responsibilities:

  1. Engage in comprehensive stakeholder mapping to identify key levels of influence federally and provincially.
  2. Build network of contacts and nurture relationships with policy makers and key stakeholders federally and provincially.
  3. Execute and measure comprehensive, multi-pronged government relations and public affairs strategy.
  4. Strategically position Organigram and its priorities within the priorities of the federal, provincial, and municipal governments by building relationships, increasing corporate awareness, creating new partnerships, and supporting federal and provincial advocacy strategies.
  5. Monitor, identify, and interpret trends, opportunities, developments, and proposed legislation on matters related to Organigram and the sector.
  6. Recommend Organigram’s position on legislative and policy issues to achieve desired result.
  7. Prepare and present legislative summaries, policy options, briefing materials, proposals, reports, and other materials for the development of strong advocacy programs.
  8. Provide expertise, leadership, analysis and counsel to the Senior Vice President, Global Brands and Corporate Affairs and other senior leaders on matters of government affairs, and public policy.
  9. Work closely with Communications teams on advocacy –related strategic communications plans
  10. Coordinate and organize grassroots engagement opportunities.
  11. Participate in any relevant Cannabis Council of Canada committees as requested.
  12. Ottawa-based with travel required – Primarily New Brunswick and Toronto



Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field

8-10 years relevant experience for the role

Extensive experience in Canadian politics or government relations

Demonstrated experience and expertise working on Canadian public policy issues

Existing relationships with relevant political, government, and industry stakeholders

Experience drafting policy submissions or briefings, speaking publicly, and the ability to distill complex legal and regulatory issues into simple explanations and compelling messages

Exceptional written and oral communication skills

Ability to work independently and through ambiguity, and to self-direct and prioritize projects across multiple files while meeting tight deadlines

Eligibility to lobby under the Lobbying Act

Experience in cannabis, alcohol, tobacco, or other highly regulated industries a plus.
