We are seeking a skilled Python Developer to join our dynamic team and contribute to the development of advanced machine learning models and image analysis algorithms for the CRISP (Causal Relation and Inference Search Platform) enhancement project. This role involves handling multi-modal data integration, including gene expression and imaging data, and developing explainable AI models that support space biology research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Integration and Processing:
  • Work with gene expression and biological image datasets (e.g., mouse brain and liver samples) to prepare data for analysis.
  • Implement pre-processing techniques such as adaptive histogram equalization, normalization, and feature extraction.
  • Apply dimensionality reduction techniques (e.g., PCA, RFE) to improve model efficiency.
  • Algorithm Development:
  • Develop and optimize convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for image analysis, specifically to identify biological patterns impacted by microgravity.
  • Use Python and C++ for performance-heavy tasks in image processing.
  • Integrate Explainable AI (xAI) techniques such as Grad-CAM and SHAP to enhance model transparency and interpretability.
  • Model Integration and Validation:
  • Develop dual-stream models to process both tabular and image data.
  • Implement ensemble methods for predictive reliability, capturing interdependent relationships between genetic and physiological data.
  • Perform rigorous model validation using cross-validation, precision, recall, and accuracy metrics, maintaining a classification accuracy of at least 75%.
  • Documentation and Collaboration:
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation, including user guides, model accuracy reports, and validation results.
  • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including data scientists, bioinformaticians, and NASA experts, to align development with project goals.

Requirements:

  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in Python, with experience in libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow for neural network development.
  • Familiarity with C++ for optimizing high-performance tasks.
  • Knowledge of machine learning, CNNs, and Explainable AI techniques (Grad-CAM, SHAP).
  • Experience with data processing, including feature selection and dimensionality reduction.
  • Experience:
  • 3+ years in a Python Developer role, with a focus on machine learning and data integration.
  • Experience working with biological datasets is a plus.
  • Previous work with image processing and tabular data integration is highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication for documenting processes and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
