Job Summary:

Bloom is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Compliance Officer to join our team on a part-time basis. This role will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance across Bloom's operations in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta. The Compliance Officer will play a critical role in upholding legal and regulatory standards, maintaining industry best practices, and fostering a culture of compliance within the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with applicable financial services & consumer protection laws, regulations, and guidelines in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta. Ensure Bloom's operations comply with regulatory requirements set forth by provincial mortgage licensing bodies.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Perform regular audits and assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of compliance programs, identify areas for improvement, and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
  • Policy Development: Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies and procedures tailored to Bloom's operations and regulatory environment. Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure policies are aligned with industry best practices.
  • Internal Controls: Establish and monitor internal control mechanisms to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Implement processes to detect and prevent potential compliance breaches or irregularities.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver compliance training programs to enhance employees' understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards. Foster a compliance-conscious culture within Bloom by promoting ethical conduct and integrity.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare comprehensive compliance reports for management and regulatory authorities. Maintain accurate and up-to-date compliance documentation, including records of policies, procedures, training materials, and audits.
  • Industry Knowledge: Stay abreast of developments in the mortgage industry and the banking world. Monitor industry trends, regulatory updates, and best practices to ensure Bloom's compliance program remains current and effective.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in compliance, risk management, or a similar role within the Canadian financial services industry, preferably in the mortgage or banking sector.
  • Strong understanding of compliance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate compliance requirements and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Professional certifications in compliance or risk management are an asset.
