Our mission is to empower individuals with information and resources through education and affordable financing to improve employability and self-sufficiency.
We are a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to financial empowerment in the Ottawa area. We provide access to loans to help individuals start, buy, or expand small businesses and professional development loans to enhance employability and support credential recognition. Additionally, OCLF offers educational services in money management, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship through community partnerships.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a FULL TIME contract position to March 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension.
Salary Range: $52,000 to $60,000 per year, pro-rated for term of contract
As the Entrepreneurship & Financial Advisor at Ottawa Community Loan Fund (OCLF), you'll play a pivotal role in nurturing Ottawa's vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem. This dynamic position combines hands-on advisory work with strategic program development. You'll spend most of your time (90%) as the primary contact for OCLF's involvement in ENRICH (One Hub), where you'll guide aspiring entrepreneurs through the intricacies of business planning and financial management. The remaining 10% of your efforts will focus on OCLF's business loan activities, assisting clients with loan applications and monitoring their progress. Your bilingual expertise will be essential as you navigate between English and French-speaking communities, delivering workshops, participating in team meetings, and providing one-on-one consultations. This role offers the exciting opportunity to directly impact local businesses, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and contribute to the economic growth of our community.
What you'll do
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for OCLF's role in ENRICH (One Hub), providing advice and support to aspiring entrepreneurs. You'll be their go-to resource for business planning, financial guidance, and entrepreneurial insights.
- Deliver engaging workshops to One Hub clients, sharing your expertise on various aspects of entrepreneurship and financial management.
- Guide clients through the intricacies of business plan preparation, idea refinement, and financial planning. Your keen eye and strategic advice will help transform promising concepts into viable business ventures.
- Provide dedicated mentorship to newcomer clients aspiring to start their businesses. You'll offer guidance, share insights into the local business landscape, and help these entrepreneurs navigate the unique challenges they may face as they establish themselves in the Ottawa business community.
- Assist clients in preparing loan applications, leveraging your financial acumen to help them present compelling cases for funding. You'll also maintain ongoing relationships with clients, monitoring their progress and providing support as they grow their businesses.
- Collaborate closely with our Senior Loans Officer & Project Coordinator, contributing to the effective management of the business loan pipeline.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this role will possess:
- Fluency in English and French. Strong French language skills are crucial for serving our diverse client base effectively.
- Experience working with diverse communities or newcomer entrepreneurs, particularly within non-profit or community development organizations.
- A background in delivering workshops or training sessions is advantageous.
- Familiarity with the Ottawa business ecosystem and local entrepreneurship landscape, coupled with an understanding of immigrant entrepreneurship challenges and opportunities, would be highly beneficial.
- Proficiency in additional languages beyond English and French is considered an asset, as it can further support our linguistically diverse clientele.
